Inspiring ourselfs with the deep resources of power inside each of us: movement and breath.
Because Queer Mansion folks have love for themselves and love for community, so much so that they've opened their home to us.
Because we are alive, beautiful, healing, moving and breathing.
Because we're sexy.
Join us for mind-cleansing, heart-opening, body melting yoga.
Inspired by our brown, queer, open-hearted, magically abled folk who are struggling and dancing as we survive and thrive, as we choose love, as we boldly show up to craft home in our bodies and minds.
The first two sessions will be facilitated by myself, and the last two by a beloved comadre in these labors of love and Yoga Teacher Training co-graduate, Sufia Toorawa. Sufia is a partner in these explorations of tender hearted warriorship, and will be present at the first two sessions as well. Right now our skills and this space are not accessible to all on the spectrum of physical capacities. I am sad and sorry about this, and changing it. In the meantime, I am working on developing my skills as a yoga teacher and holding spaces that are, and in connecting more with disability justice work. I apologize for any shittiness this may cause. Please email me with any questions around this, as I am open to hearing and talking about how we can make this work for you! [email protected]
Also inspired by the magic maker community healers in Toronto, Canada, who manifest Brown Girls' Yoga
The importance of Brown Girls Yoga: "BGY plays a critical role in the present future of decolonization: the naming and reclaiming of indigenous traditions that have been co-opted by white patriarchy and named “new age” in an attempt to re-define “freedom”, “awakening” and “self -awareness” without naming privilege, power and white male dominance. The ongoing project of dismantling concentrations of power from the hands of white men must be located in our schools, politics, communities and yoga. Empowering, uplifting and including excluded voices will provide the creative solutions that will bring the world back to balance. by recognizing that the language of yoga (surrender, oneness, divine light, freedom, letting go) and physical practice itself can trigger a myriad of forms of body dysmorphia as well as emotional and physical trauma related to shared social history, we ask our students to constantly give our teachers feedback on how our words land. We acknowledge our need for our students to monitor the teachings and share their experience - this is how we will best serve our communities."
